I have had two plecs in with my Discus for around 6 months without incident but recently I have been hearing how Plecs can kill Discus, is this true?

They can develop a habit of attaching themselves to the sides of discus and suck their slime coats off, causing at best high levels of stress, also leaving the site open to infection. Once they've done it once, they will keep on doing it.

However, it's something that a lot of people say is very rare, to the point where you don't need to worry about it...

Bet that doesn't help much!!! You could try posting in New World Cichlids though.

Personally, as you've already got them in place, assuming you couldn't easily rehome them, I'd just keep a close eye on things and remove plecs if there is any sign of a problem.

I have 2 bristlenose plecs with my 2 discus and have never had a problem, Id heard the same as you so Ive just been doing what annka5 said andf I just keep an eye on things but Ive never seen them try to chase any of the fish other than the corries over an algae wafer but they have never been agressive.

i have 2 BNs in my discus tank and every now and then they'd go for my discus and their slime. but that only happened during feeding time so when that occurred, i'd gently poke the BN with a pencil. that pretty much ended that. i've had my discuss for almost 2 years now and no problems with my BNs
