Are there any live plants that can survive in a pleco environment or is it just a case of don't bother trying?

Most plecos are fine with plants, although larger species can accidentally flatten or uproot them

I keep a bn plecos rubbernose and clown pleco all in planted tanks. No problems.

My BN is great with plants. Doesn't uproot them or anything at all. As long as they have bogwood they will be happy.

How about something like a royal pleco? L191 to be precise. They look quite big and cumbersome.

I have a number of plecs, ranging in size from about 3 inches to a fully grown common plec. They are all in planted environments. The only one who caused problems with the plants was the common plec but I found that he can be prevented from uprooting them by planting them in groups surrounded by some reasonably sized pieces of slate and by ensuring then he has some 'runways' for getting around the tank. This way, he still has hiding spaces but the plants don't get damaged and the other fish still have hiding spots as well. I suspect it may also depend on the size of the tank you have available as doing this is obviously easier with a bigger space.
