I have recently been given a large (common?) plec who is now residing happily in my nicely planted aquarium - well, it was! Unfortunately he is a rather boistrous chap and has a very powerful tail, which is causing a certain amount of havoc for the plants. I have created some open areas and corridors for him, which has helped, but he does still tend to sit on top of the plants and some of them are getting a daily uprooting or starting to grow at 90 degrees!. I appreciate that a well planted environment is perhaps not the ideal setting for him and the long term plan is to indulge my fondness for plecs and have a separate tank for him and some friends. However, this will not happen for several months so in the meantime if anyone has any suggestions of what plants may withstand him best (broad leaved ones seem to be surviving quite well at the moment) and ideas about how I can stop them getting knocked out of the substrate they would be welcome.

Best of re homing him as soon as possible tbh the more you re scape your tank the more he will ruin it im afraid

cheers dane

Looks like I shall have to get the skates on for getting the other tank sorted then and just not bother adding any more plants to the current tank.
