I just got a new tank, i have had it for about a month. i have 2 green spotted puffers in there along with my plecostomus. I was wondering what my plecostomus is eating, their is no algea in there at all. maybe a LITTLE on a few rocks but that is it. Also my water is brackish for my puffers, is my plecostomus sapose to be still alive? thanks :)

True the pleco is scaleless, and the brackish water isn't good for him - it will likely shorten his life. Also they can get quite big if you have a common pleco, possibly outgrowing your tank. The salt won't be as hard on him if your pet store uses FW salt in all their tanks, but it still isn't good for him in the long run.

... if your tank has been running for a while and you haven't been having algae problems, then IMO you really don't need a pleco. An algae magnet will do fine if you just have a little bit here and there on the glass.

And aside from algae, plecos will also eat some fresh veggies like cucumber, zucchini, and lettuce.
