as above really,

i want to know what plecos can HAPPILY live together, whether it be same breed or mixed

Also, what size does each breed need per fish?

pics too if poss!! :D

I am a pleco fan and am considering expanding

Unless you have specific species in mind, tank size they will be in and what you want from the plec, it's not that easy in just saying yes this plec will be fine with this plec.

Do you have any idea's on what you like?, any idea's on what tank size you are planning?

well.... no :S

i currently have 180l tank (rio 180) with a nugget plec in.

but for instance, if you said " you can have 4x zebra plecs and a nugget plec in a ..... size tank " etc, then i would have an idea of basis to go on...

may not be possible now though as i may have me hands full being a cat fosterer

Still the answer would be.... not that easy lol, to answer that one you asked. No you couldn't keep a GN with zebra's for varying reasons but that's an easy one.

You can keep most hypans with most hypans but that doesn't mean you can keep most hypans with other plecs, infact some you could , some you couldn't. Giving an answer is simply just a no no without knowing what you want to keep?, what you plan on doing with them? (breeding/keeping) and basically not knowing which you like or want will not determined how many can be kept due to all growing to different sizes. In other words it really boils down to a species or particular species you really are looking at :)

I have a sailfin, I know they don't like to be kept with other sailfins, but do they mind other species? I'm looking for something large-ish, happy to live with new world cichlids.

Any ideas?

What size tank?, tbh gibi's are pretty much hit and miss, some will happily behave with other plecs others just wont tolerate whatsoever. Same as adding another large plec, yours may be good as gold but the newly introduced may just be very territorial tbh.

350l (see my sig) :good:

They sound just like cichlids

He's around 10", no idea how old he is, had him for a year now. Just out of interest what other plecos are happy to live with cichlids? When we set the tank up I didn't consider any other species (love their personalities!) just curious now really!

Royals are always a tough opponent to cope with cichlids but they do have a tendency to get a little aggressive, L25 or L600 are also an option, other could possibly be L90 or L350 but again as far as im aware all can be aggressive not to mention much more expensive. The 600, 90 and the 350 are alot harder to come by but are absolutely stunning species.

They are stunning! thanks for that :) nice to know what we could have had

I'll be sticking with my gibby though, he's so fun to watch

They are very underestimated plecs, they are stunning and very cute in there own way with tons of personality. Always a great choice if tank is big enough :)

I remember reading somewhere about gibbys that they are good algae eaters, and will even eat the algae off plant leaves when they are small. It then said when they grow bigger they will not be nimble enough to clean leaves.

Well I have to say they haven't seen Spike then! he can hang upside down from a leaf that is 3cm wide...

Everyone who comes to our house always comments on him. He can be fed by hand and even swims upside down across the surface to eat the cichlid pellets
