What do you prefer? What are the ups and downs of either, if any?

I honestly do like the sleek appearance of the algae eaters, though I've never kept one. I've always had bristlenose plecos since I was given a choice, though my mom used to always get common plecos for our little 20 gallon when I was a kid :/

I was thinking about giving the algae eaters a shot one day, though.

What about you guys?

Only recently have I aquired a plec, but an Oto algae eater is a must for any tank having an algae problem, as they eat many types of algae that plecs don't touch. For example, the black looking red algae is a favourite of a oto, and fair play, my little oto always seems hard at work scoffing anything he finds! I also love the golden siamese algae eater ( see link below for photo)...if thats its correct name, as they are so delightful to watch and one day when I have a HUGE tank I will get one of them as they grow fairly large

but there are a lot of algae eaters about, and some lfs dont know the different between a oto and a flying fox so research is needed before visiting the lfs incase they try to sell you a fish you dont want xx

otos are great algae eaters, though ive never seen any in my lfs..... I WANT ONE!
