pleco w/ cichlids?

i just got my ciichlid tank started up, would a common pleco be good w/ them?

congratulations!

it's been over 2 months with my new cichlid tank and i must say that i've learnt, or rather, am learning much by trial and error.

earlier, i did bring in a small 3 inch common pleco along with the rest of da gand, but it mysteriously died.

however, a month later, i added 2 plecos, only this time they were a bit larger, and it's been about 2 weeks now, and they've been living happily ever after so far.

..so my suggestion would be to go ahead and bring em on, but only keep in mind to get them large in size, say about atleast 5 inches or above.

What is the size of your cichlid tank? Also, what cichlids do you have?

The cichlids are not going to hurt the pleco, he is protected by his armor. However, how big are your cichlids going to get? How big of a tank are you planning to have? My pleco has grown to about 10 inches, and is still growing. Since he is a bottom deweler, he competes with my Africans for space. He is mean and chases everyone around the tank. A giraffe cat is much more peacefull, and will keep your tank clean just as well. However, they will get realy big also and still compete with your cichlids for floor space.
