I have my pleco in the 25 gallon and no plec in the ten (clearly too small) My question is can you transfer the pleco over to the ten once every couple weeks or so just to attack the agae for a day then put it back to his normal tank? OR will this stress the pleco too much? There are just two dwarf gouramis in the ten. =] TIA

Too risky, stress would be a big factor, you might get away with a Bristlenose in a 10 gal, otherwise a couple of Ottos would be a good choice.

Agree with the above post. It's too much stress on the fish and the constant transfers may injure a fin and predispose him to disease. Oto's would be a very good choice. SH

It would also take the pleco some time to be comfortable enough to do the job, so putting him in for the day would be just too much stress IMO. Maybe a Siamese algea eater(true flying fox)?

Hi BigFishSmallPond :)

If you can get otos they would be an excellent addition to your small tank. They are like tiny little plecos that move all around and eat algae like crazy. I can't believe how much algae they eat!!! :D

Why only one? They prefer to be in groups, but since you can't REALLY do that, then go for three. That's what I used to do with my 10 gallon, and my algae was kept at a "agreeable" level...
