Pleco Tank

Nice list. You aware of the price of zebra plecs?

I have a flash plec, its mega. It can be a little intolerant of other plecs, but only if they get in his 'personal space'. When older the stripes become less bold, as juvis they look great, i'll get a pic of mine tomorrow.
Hadnt looked at prices but £100+... Hhmmm... Maybe not lol.
A pic would be cool

this is when i first got it.

ive probably had it just under a year now, i'll get a more up to date pic. thats actually the first time ive looked at those pictures side to side. isnt funny how you sometimes think your fish arent growing just because you see them everyday?

just took these. excuse the state of the tank, last feed before a water change/hoover.

not a great picture, hopefully he'll go sit on the log in the same spot as the earlier photo so i can get a comparison.

Wow you have a really nice catfish there... Thanks for the pics.
How hard are these to get and any idea of a ballpark price?

the flash plec cost me 30 quid. they aren't common to see in every lfs, but ive seen them in 2, including the one i brought it in. they had 4 in a tank. so im sure one could be ordered in, but its just going to be pot luck to stumble upon one. which shops are near you ? bear in mind again with this plec, it can be a bit aggressive, even while i was taking the photos it chased another fish off its food. 95% of the time it doesnt bother anything, and it never gets 'physical', just chases fish off.

Ive got pets@home (shi...) seapets ( again.... But they will order in) or a very good local shop that will also order in. Just wondered how "easy" it would be for them to order and £30 isnt too bad. Thankyou very much.

im not flush with cash, a lot of nice plecs are 50 quid +. 30 is the most ive spent on a fish, and ive only spent it twice including the flash. from the fish ive seen and shops ive been to there seems to be only plecs like bn's, commons, bulldogs, pitbulls that come in below 20 quid. ive seen 2 or 3 types at the price my flash was - bearing in mind it was very young when i got it, and the majority of proper 'nice' plecs seem to be 50 quid +. i would say ive seen 5 times the plecs costing over 50 quid than between 10-30. and thats without going to any plec specialists.

i would say you certainly have a chance of getting a flash ordered in, but you should also explore your other options. the blue/green phantoms are very nice, but ive only ever seen them over 50-60 quid.

The flash I owned was the most aggressive out of the 20 or so species I have kept, I had to rehome it

The missus is letting me spend a bit more on a few and calling it my xmas prez.
My lfs said they will get me a list of plecs they can order in and will take my others. Also £1 store credit for every inch over 6 lol.

really!? I havnt read much if anything about them being really aggressive. Thanks for the heads up

IME £30+ seems to be the standard price for all 'exotic' plecs in chain stores (Pets@Home, Maidenhead Aquatics) and general independent stores. However, the two shops I frequent most always have a good selection and are much better priced, and luckily (depending where you live) they both deliver now.

Pier Aquatics - check out the stocklist and especially the 'new arrivals' blog.

Rare Aquatics - check their specific shop classifieds forum, although I'm not sure if you have to be a member to access it.
