Pleco Id Please

Does anyone know what species of pleco this is? I inherited him with a tank that was donated to our school to set up in the entrance hall.

ps I know his fins look awful and need treating somehow. That was just how he arrived. Not very well treated in his previous life I feel.

yes he looks a mess, make sure water quality is spot on, his fins should heal

poor guy, think its a common, with plenty of love and clean water those fins will heal right up any idea how is fins got like that?

Horrendous water quailty over a long period of time and I would guess not having his fin rot treated properly in the past.

Fins will heal fine and fast in properly maintained water and a good diet of food and a stress-free environment. I've got a few fin nipper fish that occasionally tear one another's fins but they grow back after a few days/weeks. This guy's will take longer to heal though.
