Yes, especially if it’s new to the tank. I think it took mine around 2 years to be comfortable enough to eat while I’m sitting in front of the tank. He does what he does.Is it normal to never see your pleco eat?

Every tank is different. I had just moved him from the 10g to my 29g, so that may have been the issue.i feel sad when plecos take a long time to settle on the tank, luckily my baby only took 3 weeks , he even lets me see him eat sometimes
Yep! As a few others have said, this is completely normal. My sailfin sits on top of the wafers so nobody else can get to them ? Greedy beast. Is it normal to never see your pleco eat? Mine has been in there since the 23rd Feb. I deliberately left the bac and side walls without wiping them down for a while, so they have a good coating of biofilm. I've been dropping algae wafers near his favourite spot (behind the filter) and have tried placing softened cucumber and courgette near him, but haven't spotted him eating, except when he moves on the glass... is he eating algae and biofilm then? I assume he must be eating and getting enough since he's still alive and still looks well.
Wow, that eye!! Looks like he has a dark secret. What species is he?View attachment 130638
