Plec Topping For Air?

my plec who normaly dosent come out during the day has been out and very active since i fed the fish this morning,

aswell as swimming up and down the back of the tank in and out of the plants he also keep topping just like corys do.

No other fish in the tank are showing any signs of laboured breathing at all,


is this normal or do i need to worry?

Mine was doing this yesterday, and I'm pretty sure others do it, too. I have a sSpotted BN Pleco. Right now I am in the process of figuring out why they do it. See my topic here:

So far I don't think there are any problems with it, but we will see.

Is it a young one? None of my babies did this but as they got older, they all started doing it from time to time, they come out of hiding more as they grow up too - which is nice

My 15 year old Liposarcus pardalis does this now and then. She recently started doing this a couple years ago. But she is perfectly fine in every other way so I'm not concerned.

I've seen my plecs nail the crossbrace, they've broken 2 tops so far. The come up & dive down like giant corys.

Been meaning to ask this question myself, my Rubber nose does this al the time, some time it goes slowly up the back of the tank cleaning but then carries on up and out of the water! But saying that he does do other strainge things too
