Yeah, I was super close, and so holding my breath! I didn't know how he would react to having a camera lens a foot from his face, not to mention the plant he is in is also attracts a lot of bees.
It's probably my favorite mantis pic so far.

Yah I think being really small and having an unknown large object shoved in your face is pretty scary

I don't know why I called it a locust, I know better. Gorgeous shots, both of them. I usually just find the empty shells, or the bodies after they have gotten old and died. Years ago I watched one emerge but that was before digital cameras...

It's fine, we all get mixed up at times. It's nothing to feel bad about.

I saw the shell opening and brought the cicada in and put on my window screen over my sink, while I washed dishes This was 1977 or 1978. It definitely predated digital. Not that I couldn't find a cicada doing this now, but it took over an hour for the cicada to emerge and her wings to dry to full size, and I have a hard time finding 10 minutes

These photos are a mixture between my Lumix FZ3000 F2.8 and my iPhone 12 Pro.

Most of the macro shots you see were taken with my iPhone 12 Pro with the Camera+ app. And all the nature ones of animals were taken with the Lumix.
