So is there absolutely no way whatsoever than i can fit a few neons in there??
without getting rid of any, as i am very attached

I only have 13 fish, in a 27.5 UK Gal, which is 36 1/2" long, 18" high, and 16 1/2" deep
5 Mollys (1 dalmation, 2 black, 2 silver)
2 Platys (blue tint)
3 Guppies (2 orange, 1 blue)
1 Corydory
2 Swordtails (1 blue, 1 orange and white)
The lady at the shop has millions in her tank (i know its not longterm), but she said i'd be able to get at least 30 fish in my tank, and this was after i bought 9 of the above.

Neons are tiny, surely they wont take up much space?

Some people here have advised that i get 2 more cories, couldnt i get 1 cory, and a few neons??
Thanks Miranda

27 UK gallons is less water when its in US gallons, because there smaller, and i think thats what the rule thing goes by. If you really really wanted some neons, id get rid of some mollies. And maybe the guppies. But dont forget you need some more corries. Then youd be able to get some neons. IMO

27 uk is about 32 us gallons and if everything is good with your water and you have good aeration/filtration etc, then i would say you can get a school of neons (around 6) and maybe even another cory

actually, you probably should get another cory or two since they like company of their own

Aquarius - are you sure, i've heard so many conflicting stories, i think its my fault though that i didnt put UK by the gal in my original topic.

so whats the maximum you think i could get 6 neons and another cory that would be great, you've made me so happy, thankyou.

I wouldn't, I think you have enough on the middle and upper level of the tank, I think that area is probably overstocked actually.

I do think you need more cories, they need to be in groups of 3+, a single cory is a loney cory. You can easily add a non-messy fish or 2 to the bottom.

And wrs, UK gallons are bigger than US. 10 US gallons is 8.3 UK.

EDIT: Just noticed I may well be talking out of my arse! I thought your tank was smaller, sorry. You could add some neons if you want, what sex are the livebearers? Are you likely to get overrun with fry? I would definalty add 2 more cories of the same kind to the tank. I also would not look at how many fish a shop has in a tank for guidance unless it was display.

oh, yeah, thats what i ment to say, honest, its the heat. Its 95 degrees here and we didnt put the AC in because it hasnt been hot until today, lol.

make sure theyre the same kinds of corries, and same size also.

It's ok.

They don't actually have to be the same kind, depending on how many you get. You could have 2 of 2 kinds and they will school providing they are around (and will grow to) the same size.

I have 8 peppereds, 2 albino and 2 bronze (I believe the albino to be versions of the bronze anyway) and they get along great. :D

Oic, :( okay 2 more corys then i guess, at least they will be happy, even if they are scary looking

no offence but they frighten my little girl
Maybe you should rehome the one you have (to someone with the same kind) or give it back to the petshop in that case. You shouldn't buy fish you don't want, it's unfair on them IMO, also on your little girl.

what sex are the livebearers

The mollys are 4 female 1 male (although i think i'm losing the male :()

The platys are both female

The swordtails i think are one male one female

And not sure about the guppies, the two orange tails are inseparable and the blue swims on its own alot, so i think he's male and the others are female

(bearing in mind i'm an absolute beginner, the swordtails and guppies i'mjudging by behaviorwhich isprobably way out, the others i'm judging by the under fins, which i think is right)

male swords have swords while females dont and they kinda look like platties and mollies. and colorful guppies are usually men, but they have a fin, its starts w/a g and i know what its called but cant spell it and if it looks like a fin then theyre women and if it goes in, and is pointy then theyre males.

I want him, hes great (dunno if its male), my bloke loves him to pieces, its a man thing i think biggest fish in the tank and all that.

My little girl will have to get used to it i'm afraid, shes only 2 1/2yrs so i've plenty of time to show her how harmless he is, and i think its just because it isnt as colourful as the others, its like spiders etc she has to learn, i think she will be fine

In that case the blue swordtail is definately male and the orange and white female, as my partner also said the female looked more like a molly, and she doesnt have asword like him, and he chases her around alot, thats why i thought he was male

will this affect what i can get ??
