Hi any help on this would be great, I bought these lovelies at a garden centre a few weeks ago and the guy insisted that they were pygmaeus (I have pygmaeus and argued that they weren't but he wouldn't have it) anyway as they only had 5 left and I liked their markings I got them at a knock down price.

So afte putting them in the tank with the pygmaeus the diff is obvious to me, you see what you think

Corydoras.jpg

The picture on the far left is the new catfish and the right one shows one in the group of pygmaeus, the diff seems to be the freckling on the head and also the darker broader bar along it's body, hard to get decent shots as they are always on the move.

Howver I know that the pygmaeus I have don't have that speckling on the head they are quite plain in comparison.

Any help, I'll try to get decent shots if you need them, but from what I've read there are only 6 recognised dwarf cory's and these don't seem to fall into any of the known ones. Could they be Aspidoras do you think ?

Soz no got Habrosus as well as Aspidoras pauciradiatus, I'll see if I can get a better pic as this was taken in the tank with my camera phone.

I've been checking all the catfish sites and can't pin these down, so annoying.

one of the elegans group but without a clearer pic, its hard to say which one. Definately not one of the dwarfs though.

OK sorry for taking so long got a few things on the go at the moment.

More pics and hopefully someone can help me, please let me re-iterate this is defo a dwarf as it is the same size as my pygmaeus and I've had them now for approx a month and no sudden growing spurt, females are as big as the pygmaeus females and there are a couple of what look like males.

I agree with you on appearance Cory_Dad but the OP keeps insisting he has pygmy sized fish and nothing as big as Corydoras napoensis would be. Frankly I have no clue where to look next.

Yeh i would have to say also that its a Corydoras napoensis

They could be, bilineatus are sometimes more chubby than napoensis and more barrel shaped.

I was not aware that there was a pygmy form of bilineatus; none of my references even mention them. I was kinda thinking that they're juvenile napoensis although on closer examination of your pictures, yours definitely have big bellies. Could be they're well fed too.

Normally napoensis get to be 45 to 50 mm in length and bilineatus are 50 to 55 mm.

They're your fish so from the pictures you should be able to tell better than I.

Whatever they are, they're cute.

Cheers.

Thanks yes they are well fed as they are in with my 8 week old discus fry LOL

After checking the Napoensis I've got to say that the markings on the naps are too broken up on the side of their bodies, my cory's have quite strong unbroken body lines.

The females of my group are as big as the pygmaeus females and as I've had them for around a month I've not seen any more growth apart from the bigger bellies on the girls LOL.

Whatever they are very cute and I am looking forward to spawning them as I've never seen them in any of the shops locally before so will be doing my best to introduce them to locals.

That's why I thought they were juvenile napoensis.

Here's a picture of juveniles and their parents:

See the stripes?

Please, I'm not being argumentative, I'm just trying to explain my rational. As I said, only you can really tell what yours are.

Cheers.

Hey no problem if I don't know I ask other people that is what forums are for.

All I can say is that the max size of the females in my tank are is about 2.5cm and I've had them a month and they have only got fatter not longer. But I do see what you mean about how much they look like my mob, side markings are quite strong on the juvies you've got

I can try to take some photo's this weekend when I'm cleaning filters in the fh of both cory's in a display tank and you can be the best judge, all I know is that they appear to be dwarf cory's and haven't grown any since I've had them plus as they are new to me I've no idea on what they are and can only go off what I am told.

Look forward to your further comments when I get a decent shot of them and thanks for the assist :flowers:
