I hope he is a Common because mine looks exactly the same! Which means mine might be fully grown now. It's odd he reached adult size in 8 months. I wasn't irresponsible buying a big fish, he was sold as a Bristlenose. A fairly common occurrence it seems.

I don't understand how anyone could mistake a common for a bristlenose, their head shape is different, their colouration is different and their pattern is different.

10" is conservative for a common plec, I'd expect a common to reach 14" in an appropriately sized aquarium.

Well, they did! They are a long established lfs. They did offer to have it back but I wouldn't like to part with him/her. I will probably have to get a 100ukgal tank at some point, possibly next Xmas. Or sooner if it becomes necessary.
