My mother has a male veil. She has had him about a year now. the last couple of weeks he seem to just be getting fatter, and fatter. Right now his belly is so big it looks like he will explode. He is swimming fine, and wants to eat more. I have been feeding him peas only every other day for about a week. I thought he may just need a good poop. He is acting fine, scales, color, everything else seems normal. What could it be? I'm afraid he really he will burst. PLEASE HELP. I can't post any pics.

thats so sad sorry i can't help i would also put it down to him needing a good poo but maybee its not hope he gets better :(

Could be internal parasites as well as constipation like you thought of or water issues etc. If none of the other ideas (water change, checking for dropsy symptoms) pan out try a good anti-parasitic. I recently used PraziPro with good results but I'm sure there are others.

You say he's got no pineconing, he's eating fine and acting normally.... to me it just sounds like constipation. Get your mum to stop feeding him: don't worry, bettas can go up to a week comfortably without food. A short three day fast won't hurt him and will probably clear up the problem. :)

Good luck! :)

waters fine, no pine cone. I'm leaning toward the internal parasite too. Like I've said, all he has eaten this week is peas, and only every other day. he is only getting fatter. What is a good med for internal parasites?
