Please Help

You also don't say what you have been feeding the Bichir.
You say you have had it for a month. But if you haven't been feeding it the appropriate food (bloodworms, shrimp etc), it's probably starving, and in desperation attacking your other fish.
i did on about 2 or 3rd reply feed it bloodworm

good to see that your oen the road to getting your fish tank sorted. but pleasue ensure before you buy anymore fish you first get your current stockign sorted out. you don't want to be adding more fish to an already growing problem. just ensure you get your red tail cat a long term home.

Oh, sorry, must have missed that.

Good luck with your new set up.

Not only is this shop giving bad advice, as pointed out, but it is heavily over-charging you. No way should a Senegal Bichir. I have 3 and never paid over £5 for any of them. If I remember correct, I am sure they were only £2.50 each. Anyway, as Neale says, it is unlikely it took down the Knifefish fully alive. My guess is the Knife was already dying or dead and as more of an opportunist than out and out predator, the Bichir took advantage. I had a similar thing with one of mine and an Eel. Unfortunately the Bichir choked on the Eel too.

ok so don't think it was the red tail as he is now dead :-(
so iv moved all remanding fish in to my spare tank(was set up for baby guppies and have been running for about 3 weeks)
going to clean out and start from scratch, should i get new stuff for in my filter or will that be ok?
setting it back up for a fire eel and probably the plec as hes a bit big for the other tank lol
will they get on ok, sorry for all the Q's but i have come to the conclusion the my local shop don't know that much or are more interested in making money instead of the welfare of the fish

thanks

Daniel
