I'm really concerned about my betta. I bought him from this fish shop about 2 weeks ago and the next day he broke out in loads of white spot. i turned the temp up, added some salt and have been changing the water slightly every day. he was getting better really quickly and virtually all the spots disappeared, but today he seems really sulky. He keeps staying reaaly still, like he's resting and seems to be coming up for air more frequently. He also seems to have more spots today only really really tiny ones, are they just the old ones disappearing????! He's still eating but not quite as much. I haven't done anything differently but he seems so much more depressed. please please help with anything you think might be relevant. thanks.
Ruth.

no i know it has white spot (sorry i forgot to sat that), but his mood has completely changed i thought maybe keeping him at such hifh temps overa period of time is effecting him ??? (28 degrees)

Well, high temps shouldn't affect bettas too much unless ou're going REALLY high (over 85F), they are tropical fish, and should be happy if kept at a temp of about 75-80F (dont' know how much that is in celcius.

as for your betta, dont' be surpirsed if the ich starts recurring a few times before it's completely gone. Since ich is acutally a parasite, it falls to the bottom of the tank and then ends up back on a host (your betta).

I woudl sugguest you do water changes more frequently, keep the temperature at around 80F, and keep adding salt for at least two weeks to compeltely kill off the ich. When do you water changes, see if you can syphon up the stuff at the bottom (obviously you can't see ich, but cleaning the bottom will somewhat kill it off).

if you have ich medicine you can put htem in when you see hte white spots, and use salt after the white spots are gone.

As for hte betta being depresse,d it's normal (after all, you'd be depressed too if youewre sick). If he doens't eat for an extended period of time, try giving him some good food that you know he'll eat (frozen bloodworms, etc). Otherwise, his mood will probably get better after the ich is gone completely.

HTH, and goo dluck :)
