Please help me sex my Blue Rams (pic's included)

Do you think you could call your LFS and ask them where they buy their fish from? Theres a reason for this.. I will explain later.

I can call him and ask, but I'd be much more comfortable knowing why I was asking the question for when he asks me why. Not to be at all rude, but I have a good relationship with my LFS owner (knows my tank almost as well as I do) and I know he will be curious to why I am asking (as am I). :dunno: :look:

In your last post with pictures, I don't think you linked to them correctly. You right click the image and copy the http in properties. You paste that within the "IMG" here on TFF. Let me know if I can be of any other help.

Thanks for trying to help, but unfortunately that is what I am doing. I edited and redid all th pic's the same way as you mentioned and still the same result. I'm using photobucket, or more trying to use photobucket.com

There was an error with the linking for about 30 minutes as I tried moving my photo's from a created album to the default, but I have since edited the links appropriately. I'm confused.... : :S

....and I still don't know for sure the sex of my ram...

I have moved the smaller Ram to my 10G to give it a breather from being chased the whole day.

QUOTE=parker313,Jul 7 2004, 07:22 AM]Webshots and Geocities both prohibit remote linking. You can see the pics in your posts b/c the images are stored in your browser's cache.

If you want a site that allows remote linking, try www.photobucket.com
Thanks! I've been searching looking for somewhere for free that I could post my pic's and link to them. Photobucket will do...

Now, sorry everyone for the wasted posts above trying to show those pic's. Let's try again, shall we..

Here are both my German Blue rams together:

I'm sorry about that :dunno: On another forum I post on, lots of people link from photobucket... I've never used them so am not much help in trouble shooting.

Your female APPEARS to be have both male and female characteristics so it's kinda hard to tell :/

Thanks for trying to help, anyways, and thanks for posting the photobucket link to my pic's for others to see. I read the info at photobucket and it says that it does allow dynamic/remote linking for just this purpose. It even says in my personal options that it is turned on. I'm going to post in another forum here at TFF regarding good photo-host sites that allows remote linking to TFF.

one more definable feature of female rams - females have a slight pinkish belly, whereas the males don't.

It certainly looks like a female to me, the pink belly, the rounded dorsal fin, the pectoral fins being so much smaller than those of the known male.

:hyper:  :hyper: I fixed my problem with photobucket! I was right-clicking on the pic and hitting 'Copy Shortcut' or clicking on the image and copying the address in the address bar. It made the link look like "/?action=view&current=BothRams.jpg" at the end of the address instead of "/BothRams.jpg". I wet into my photobucket options and turned "Show Url" on. This also displays an 'Image" box where you can copy/cut & paste the url with the "{IMG}*****{/IMG}" already attached (but in proper square brackets].

If you look above at the last set of pic's I tried they now work. I'm not going to correct the errors at the top since someone with the same problem may stumble on it and see the solution at the end.

So I'm thinking it's a unanimous decidision that it's a female.... I originally had the impression that the German blue ram would be similar to gourami's in that the male is brilliantly coloured with a pointier dorsal fin and the female is dull in colours and has a rounded dorsal fin. My bad.....

I've moved "her" to the platy aquarium and it's getting more comfortable in it's new surroundings. I'm going to see if the colour changes at all as it relaxes.

It's a female forshure, here is how you can tell

Female,
They will have that pinkish spot on them like the one in the picture does also the dorsal fin is not as pointy
Male,
The male will have a more pointed dorsal fin and will be a darker shade of black also their pelvic fin will be more pointed. 8),

Well... The front dorsal rays look extended from what I can tell... Which indicates male... But there is the pink belly, which strongly indicates female, and the blue spots, which some say is sure fire, but I don't really take it much into account, I think all four of mine have it and I have two of each!

Someone said something about dying which I guess is possible, but it seems like your (for sure) male would also probably be dyed, but not for sure...

It seems to me that if you had two males the smaller one would probably be miserable, hiding, and would NOT come up next to the larger for anything, but it isn't unusual for the males to chase the females a bit.

Anyway, I would tend to say female as well, but not for sure...

Good luck!

Kelly

I spoke to my LFS owner and we can rule out dyeing. He thinks it's a male, but also questioned based off what I said about the pink belly. I still don't know...

Colin

i'd say the one on the left is male and the other a female
that said i'm not big into rams

Dang it Collin it's a female.

For Pete's sake I worked in a flippin fish store and we kept alot of them. I don't think that a day whent by that someone asked me if we had any Rams. It Is A
FEMALE
