I have the breeding team...i purchased these fish from my local market...and the only fish he looks like mainly is a NYASSACHROMIS BREVICEP FROM NKOMO REEF.

MY FISH ARE BREEDING AS WE SPEAK AND I WOULD LIKE TO SELL THEM TO MLFS AS THE RIGHT SPECIES.

PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN...MUCH APPRECIATE IT.

CATH

I cant give yout he exact name of the fish, but i know it isnt rare. I see them all the time. I keep wanting to think its a Peacock , but i cant put my finger on what it is.

It's an Aulonocara but of which type no idea, it's not rare but still a nice fish.

Could be a Peacock - Aulonocara stuartgranti "blue neon". Have a look at this:

Lovely looking fish. :good:

Thanks for your reply..We actually bought the 3 male and two female as Auloncara gertrudae...but when looking up about breeding on websites we found that they looked nothing like gertrudae really so we then borrowed a giant book of African cichlids from our lfs and the closest we have found since was the brevicep...and apparently they often get mistaken for a gertrudae. My fish is very dark in the body...has no blue in his anal fin, only yellow. He goes almost black when mating. Perhaps if I could find some more pics of the gertrudae's it may help me to identify them further. Research research research!!!!!!!!!

It was amazing that in the giant book there were so many fish that could have been my fish apart from the slightest variation. None I must say were quite so dark in the body. The females are little with brownish colored bodies and yellow in the fins..also stripes through the body. I will check some more pics out and hopefully find the species soon.

Thanks to you all for your help.
Please dont stop with the answers if you have some though
Cheers :good:

could it be a species of copadichromis borleyi

I have looked into it and unfortunately its not the same fish. Thanks anyways. Im still searching endlessly...he is a Peacock - Aulonocara of some kind but apparently a brevicep is an Aulonocara species. So who knows...we still search for answers so appreciate any help still.

The eggs have been lost, dropped, eaten etc but are breeding again as we speak so thats kewl...the tank temp was too high and now sitting at 26-27 instead of 31-32 degree's. Fingers crossed!!!!

:good:

Regards, Cathy

could it be a species of copadichromis borleyi
I did think that myself but was put off cos it's not as rounded as copadichromis.

Still sure it's an Aulonocara sp.

Yes my research proves he must be from that species. We purchased him as a gurtrudae but he looks nothing like it...and more like the brevicep. As quoted in the last reply ....Im still searching. lol
