Evening

Ok I had been running my Ehiem 2028 for a couple of months and decided to clean it out.. easy!
Ok but after connecting it back up I could not get it to prime.. When i first installed it - worked a treat.

i tried manually priming it.. and water staretd to get to the filter.. then it stopped again. After a hour of this.. filled the filter up - manually primed and now it seems to work...

Why did it do this?> If i clean it again will the same thing happen.. im so confused :)

I have never owned a Eheim but have had several other brands of canister filters and I always have the same experience as you had. I think its inherent with canister filters. JMO. Jimmy

I've just stared using this type of filter. I have an Eheim 2026. I've taken it apart 3 or 4 times and it's worked like a charm. All I had to do is attach the hoses and it filled up on it's own (without pushing the priming thing.)

How far below the tank is your filter located? Also, how far below the surface of the water is the spray bar?

When you reconnect the hoses, does the spray bar bubble aggressively as it's filling the filter?

Pull the spray bar out of the water so the air flows out more easily. Works with my 2026 every time.

Connect the inlet pipe up first, open the tap and the tap on the return pipe. Tank water will siphon from the tank through the filter and up the return pipe. Once the water has reached the return pipe tap, close it, connect the rest of the return pipe open the tap and switch on. A few shakes dislodge any trapped bubbles once it is running.

I've never had any trouble starting an Eheim. Mine don't have "priming" buttons or anything.
