Hello

Can somebody please help me identify these two plants?

Plants12.jpg

Secondly, am I right in asuming that the brown leaves show are a sign of an iron deficiency?
If so, this leads onto a second question

I use Tetra Plantamin to provide nutrients to the plants, but have also been told that the carbon in my filter also removes this.
Is this the case, and if so how do I get around this problem?

Thanks

I'm guessing it's a red ludwigia. Also, in the first picture you have an amazon sword variant on the right.

I'd say those species too.

Brown leaves could be a few things, I very much doubt it's anything to do with iron since you are dosing plantamin (which only provides trace elements for the plants, not the most important ones, but does contain a lot of iron). It just looks like they are emergent leaves that are dying off, they will be replaced by

Remove the carbon as it has no real use anyway unless you are trying to remove medications from the water, I've read lots of anecdotes about it removing plant nutrients, it probably removes some IMO but wont be the end of the world for the plants. As I said though, carbon is not needed and wont be doing any good if you have already had it in the tank for a few days (it gets spent very fast). I would just replace it with filter floss.

I would replant the Ludwigia stem by stem. you have them all bunched together right now and this isnt very good for the plant, light wont be reaching lower leaves as much.

Airstone is turned off here, which is good as it would help with removing CO2 from the water, which would help the plants grow better.
This looks like a very clean new tank (and you have HOB), so you will want to keep as much CO2 in there as you can.

I assume since you have posted a few times before that you are already aware of the issues with your fish stock.

Anybody got an Idea of what sword it is?
Not sure which type but my ones like that have done nicely with a fert. tab under the roots like seachem or api. That's in conjunction with knowing that my light is in the "low-light" range and dosing my water during the week with the correct amounts of liquid carbon, macros and micros. Gee, wonder if there -is- a pic site that would make it easy differentiating the different sword variations as an example...

Nice plants and fish, i dont know what amazon but they all have very similar requirements.

My ludwigia has almost died

Most of them have their leaves just falling off.

2 are sprouting new leaves, but does not give me much hop.

Anyone got any ideas.

Mine died too and I always suspected low KH (I have KH=0) but it could also be that they didn't get enough carbon.

The way you prune them is to cut and keep the best top parts of the plant and replant them, discarding the lower, often majority, of the dying stem.

Also, since they are red I suppose they might want more light than you're giving. Are you above 1.0 watt per US gallon (assuming T8 type light?) Are you dosing liquid carbon or how are you supplying your carbon nutrient?

Hello Waterdrop

Dosing with Flourish Excel

The light works out at 2wpg

Also dosing with fertiliser.

Realised that the Carbon may be absorbing the fertiliser, so have removed this to see if ti will help.
