As title says, i woke up this morning had a quick look in my tank to notice one of my Chocolate Chiclids has another fish in its mouth. Couldnt do any think this morning due to work, just got in to find it is still sticking out. Will i have to catch fish and remove now dead fish? Or am i better off leaving it alone? Please Help!!!

From what I've heard, you're better off catching the fish and trying to pry the other fish out, else you could loose the fish with the smaller fish in it's mouth as well.
As to how, I'm unsure, so you should wait for someone more experienced to give you an answer.
Hope they're okay! :good:

Thanks for the reply thought that would be the best thing to do, just not sure how to get it out!!!

Hi im not too sure if i would remove it or not but if you do decide to get a wet towel and wrap the fish in it so you can hold it then just pull the other fish out of its mouth, you might need tweezers or similar depending on how far in it is.

just be carefull when trying to remove the fish as the spines on the pectroral and dorsal fins can get stuck. if they do you will have a bit of a mission on your hands im affraid....

hold the choc in a wet cloth and try and wriggle the dead fish out but dont tug on it. try twisting it gently to free up the fins if they are stuck.

chances are the fins will be stuck as its a last defence by the fish being eaten to prevent it going down the throat of the hungry fish.

if the choc is a decent size then it might come out easier.

good luck

Hope i can get a definate answer, the fish which has been ate is sticking out tail only if that is any help to anyone out there.

Dead fish is out, but the fish which had it in its mouth, mouth is stuck open! Think i am goin to lose it

I've seen a post like this somewhere else before, the owner of the fish said he tugged the little fish out and realised that his big fish's mouth was stuck open too likes yours. He thought he dislocated it's jaw or something haha
I think I remember people just telling him not to unnecessarily stress the fish and leave it to nature... His fish did get better on it's own if I recall correctly = ]
Hope yours gets better :good:
