a container to either collect your RO water after you have made it or bought it

Oh yes, they are all very good

It was large retailer though not a local dodgy shop.
That means nothing - some small retailers are great as are of course some larger retailers - but you do not need two externals, debatable if you need one!!!

ps anyways, im off for the night, I will leave you in Nemo's capable hands :good: she is in the USA so bedtime is later for her than me  11:40 ish here - where are you by the way?

aaaarrrgghhh head mashed now, tropicals are looking good again

So would you say i have been given totally bum information then?

N west England here. Bed time here too but i got fish on my brain.

Really it is not that difficult:

Filter is live rock
power head for flow
RO water so that you can keep corals without a problem (well more of a problem :p)

 yes, bum information

Right, just gotta look at sump units etc.

Quick one before u dash. Do you have any pics of your setup?

you can do a marine tank without a sump, but as Nemo said, a sump is very useful. - read up on some journels and report back in the morning little one :p

I have two journels - my first tank, which is in the Nano section and my second which is in the journels section

my first tank

My second tank

yes, sumps totally optional but I recommend to everyone because they have so so many benefits. Filtration wise, you could even just start with Live rock for a little bit and add equipment (like skimmer, sump) later on as long as you keep your stocking low and do your water changes.

I can only agree with Seffie and Nemo but I would advise to maybe look at the Betta tanks a sump adds more water volume which will give you better water stability.

As you have not spent money yet I would read through some of the journals look at what a lot of people have done and think what you want to keep a lot of people including myself buy a small tank and are soon looking for a bigger one :) which costs more.

SO how are the all in one, plug and play systems like the Aqua Reef 200 and the Red Sea max 130d?

Some are good and some are too expensive and can be better accomplished by buying items and putting together yourself

How much money do you want to shell out to start with? There are some great deals on ebay at the moment

well after my visit to a store yesterday, the price got upto near enough £1000

So, is that the sort of amount you are thinking of?

How big is the space you have available for tank?

Are you happy to look around for bargains or do you want everything new?

Do you have access to a van or the like to transport a tank?

Seffie x

I guess around a grand is ok. Space is a bit more limiting. We only have 800MM width and around 450MM depth for our optimum place to have it. Transport is not a problem and iwould like everything new

Right, time to start making some lists then :good:

Tank
lighting
skimmer
powerheads
RO or buy from lfs?
live rock
sand
syphon
algae magnet
water containers
salt to make your own salty stuff or buy from lfs?
test kits - salifert
heaters

So are we looking at a nano of about 125 litres? if so take a look at the orca and the rio 125 journels :good: both come with decent t5 lighting
