Please don't crossbreed your Endlers!!

I'm going to breed endlers with feeder guppies and sell them here for everyone to corrupt the gene pool.

Wow...even in a place where everyone shares the same hobby, still there are conflicts. Sad, indeed.

Regardless - evolution/God(s)/whatever you believe in; does its own thing. Things change, and there is no stopping that. If that means the Endler's species changes through breeding with other fish species, I guess that's just how it goes, right?

If my fish could communicate, and asked to be returned to their natural habitat, I'd probably oblige. However...I'm guessing they'd want to stay put, considering there is a constant food source present, and their water is kept clean. I'm sure if I had an unpure Endler's Livebearer, it wouldn't be cursing me out for crossbreeding it with a guppy strain. It'd probably just ask 'Hey, when's lunch?'.

To each his/her own, I guess. Classifying someone as a 'Nazi' becaue of their personal ideals/beliefs is a little ridiculous, and I was a bit surprised to see it. At the same time, arguing with people because they feel differently from you is just as goofy.

So cross-breed Endler's...or don't. I'll just make sure my pets are kept in the best possible care that I can provide.

Haha!

I am not sure what you're trying to say with this sentence. To be a Nazi one would have to classify the person by their beliefs and ideals. Those beliefs/ideals are the personal traits that would make the person a Nazi. Those beliefs such as superioriority of certain races or species over others.

So according to your logic, if humans intervene to remove an endangered species from its rapidly destructing ecosystem, that is good. Then, if rather than trying to preserve the species and whatever unique characteristics that identify them as a species, we should casually allow them to crossbreed with anything they can, even if there was no chance of the 2 creatures ever interacting in what was their natural habitats.

Considering that most species are endangered by humans I really doubt that human intervention is going to save many species. Its sad but, most likely, true. Sometimes its better to crossbreed a species that is endangered so that the special traits are not lost. With a limited population the species would become weak from inbreeding.

Last I checked, The Nazi Party/NSDAP was a political organization in Germany, most notably gaining infamy during the early to mid 1900s. Many within that party were privy to some very, very vile acts. And while I somewhat agree in what you wrote ( above ), guppymonkey, I don't quite understand why anyone would ever refer to anyone else as being a 'Nazi' on these forums, just because that person made a comment that was differing in how another feels.

And I also don't agree with killing off fish to keep a 'pure' strain/breed, but to label someone a title that suggests the notion of favoring torture/genocide, because they feel the opposite, just strikes me as way off key.

But, hey, I'm not here to debate politics or ideals...I'm here to learn about fish. This thread just kind of struck me odd and I figured I'd drop a post.

Peace.

does anyone have any pictures of endlers?? (of their own i mean...not on the net)

If you want to see a picture of an endler from someone on this forum go to the Buy, Sell and Swap! forum and you'll find HeatherSweetness' pic on her "Endler's available" listing..! Cute little guys arent' they... ;)

All I have are endler/guppy hybrids which I shouldn't be announcing less"copeina" finds me and has them sentenced to death...

Oh Dear another Coloradoan getting beat up by a Canadian... Uhm,,.a little inside joke there; apologies to all the worldwide members... :look:

I myself am indeed guilty of cross-breeding a pure male Endler's with two female feeder guppies--but not because of any intention to sell the hybrids or any such thing; I'd be keeping all of the offspring myself. The only reason I am even allowing him to interbreed is due to the fact that, if I were not keeping him with the guppies, he would be pretty much on his own--especially when it comes to another female fish to chase around. It was, indeed, because of this... "determination," shall we call it, that I was forced to separate him from my other fish in the first place. My problem was that I had a large--okay, HUGE--female Marigold Swordtail (the only one of her species in the aquarium at the time) with which he was so enfatuated he almost starved her to death. She never even had any time to eat because he was chasing her around so much! So, I entered into the picture two female feeder guppies to relieve the tension on her. This, however, didn't work--despite the fact that these females were actually ones that he had the ability to breed with, he ignored them altogether--too focused on his "big orange beauty" to notice them! So, finally, I separated him, putting him in his own aquarium along with the female guppies as company. Even then, it took him around a week before he actually began to notice them!
In any case, he's finally happy again after recovering from losing (in other words, most likely forgetting totally about) his "Juliet" and she, in the meantime, is finally recovering her health from being nearly starved to death!

Well I got 40 endlers that my friend gave me. Thre still fry but devoliping color a little too fast they have a lot of dots Ill put pictures up. Also I got a lot of female and fancy females gyppys in there so whats the problem with crossbreading. :/

I know this is late... but just for the record, breeding pure strains of any animal in captivity (unless you are an a recognised organisation or sanctuary) does nothing not help "preserve" the species. There are more tigers in captivity being kept as pets in the States than there are in the wild around the world, yet those pets being bred certainly won't t help the wild tigers any.

why dont the LFS sell females? I noticed live aquaria.com only sells males whats up with that?
Most breeders only sell the males of a lot of species. If you go to most pet stores they will have male dwarf gouramis and not females. There are two reasons for not selling females. One is that in some species the female is not as colorful as the male. The more colorful fish are the more popular fish and obviously the most easily sold. The second reason is competition. Breeders don't want other people competing for their business. If a lot of smaller local breeders start selling endlers or even (god forbid) giving them away to stores because they have an excess of fry then the breeders end up losing some money.

er.. I'm not sure if this is on topic, but i thought that ender/guppy crosses were infertile? At least thats what I'd read. But i could be wrong. Don't really know much about these guys, aside from the fact that they're adorable adn I want them *lol*

i saw Endlers for 10 cent at petsmart they were feeder fish

Certain hybrids are infertile, like some parrotfish, but guppies/enders crosses arent.
