I have a guppy that just recovered, I mean just recovered, from gill flukes. He now is covered, around his left eye and gills, by a ball of fungus, not on his eye, just around it. It is cottony looking, and I treated the whole tank for fungus growth today. The only thing that has happened is the fungus got worse. I'm afraid it may be columnaris (SP), what do you think? Should I quarentine?

EDIT: I know ur supposed to add salt to the tank, but how much? 1tsp/5g is in there now. It's not a species tank, its a community that has

1neon
4guppies
3white clouds

please someone answer! I've sunk a lot of money into this fish to lose him now!

I understand your frustration. I had success with the columnaris with a salt bath, which I think you should try since yours is a community tank and you wouldn't want to have medication in your main tank.

The dosage is 10 grams of aquarium salt per 1 litre. Although the salt content seems quite high, it is very safe with fish, especially lifebearers. You can leave the fish in there for 10 minutes.

After the salt bath you may consider putting some melafix into your tank.

I don't measure w/ liters...

How much is that in galls and tbl spoons/teaspoons. I have fungs meds and parasite meds in the tankl and hes going fool. Hes darting and swimming in his side, ramming the wall. I hope he wont die :-(

PLEASE ANSWER, HE'S DIEING I THINK!!! His swim bladder is acting up, he cant stay level, if he stops moving his back end floats up !!!! He swims side ways and darts, PLEASE< HOW MANY TEASPOONS TO ADD TO 1 LITRE OF WATER????

EDIT: The whole side of his body the fungus is on is paralyzed, he wont move the fin nor will he breathe with those gills.......

HOW MANY TSP PER 1 LITRE OF WATER OF SALT DO I NEED, PLEASE, I'VE HEALED HIM 3 OR MORE TIMES, DON'T WANT HIM TO DIE NOW!!! PLEASE ANSWER...

ok, 1 gallon is 3.8 litres. And a teaspoon is 5 grams. So, 1 litre with 2 teaspoons or 7.6 teaspoons per 1 gallon.

But ... as you mentioned the guppy is not doing too well, it may or may not help.

good luck and let us know how the fish is doing. remember, use aquarium salt, not table salt.

okay thankyou. Idon't want him to die, i hope he pulls through...

Hes been thru ich 2x and gillflukes, (just got rid of those feels like 30 mins ago) now columnaris Poor thing. It's all the guppy's breeder's fault. They allowed so much inbreeding.

I used aquarium salt :)

I don't think the salt did anything for the fungus!!! It calmed him down... Maybe it was hurting him and now it feels better....

If your little guy has columnaris, it will look like grey patches that start near their head and spread back to their bodies. It almost looks like mold or a burn.

If they do have a problem with their swim bladder, even though they look completely pitiful and helpless, they really aren't as bad off as they look - they look completely disabled, but they just can't get their balance... HOWEVER - if one side of him has gone paralyzed, that could be a side effect of something more serious.

Another thing to watch out for w/the columnaris is tiny white strings hanging off their fins.

I recently had 3 female bettas recover from columnaris. I quarantined them, treated them with maracyn and LOOOOOTS of stress coat (or Prime, whatever ya got to build up their slime coat), some of them were showing improvement within a few days. I treated them twice, and left them in quarantine for 10 days. Thankfully everyone recovered.

So, I guess if you do decide he does have columnaris, you could try the route that I did with him.

How's he doing now, by the way?

thats definitely it, and hes definitely dieing. He swims upside down to the top of the water, and then floats down. He'll rest a second and then go fool, until he gets off of the rocks enough to swim. He dont want to let go yet. I've given him a salt bath, but no effect. I'm gonna mis the little bugger :-( . I just hope he got a hold to one of those females, to pass on his pretty red color...

Should I euthanize, rather than make him suffer all night? Or should I give him a while?

EDIT: Euthanization is no longer needed, he just died... :byebye:

:rip: (no name) I don't usually name them...

btw: what happened to lucky?

RIP... I'm sorry that his illness had gotten worse. I guess my advices earlier didn't help much.
