Hi, water parametres are:
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrites: 0ppm
Nitrates: 0.5ppm
PH: 7.0-7.1
Tank Temperature: 26 degrees

I have just done a 10% water change and vacummed my gravel. I did shift my plants around a bit and now my platy is hiding behind the under gravel Aqua clear filter. I did everything as normal but now he is hiding, he has never done that before. Should I be worried?

No mine do it after a water change and gravel vac, just abit of stress.

I hope so, the rest seem okay however his platy friend(fred) keeps going over to look at him. its quite cute, i just worried coz he has never hidden before, i've turned their light of anyways to see if he will chill. Thanks. :)

It dosn't seem like anything to worry about mine hang around the filter now and then, turning the light out is a good idea to see if he goes back to being normal.

I actually think that the male platy is wanting a bit of ho ha!! if u know what i mean, we did have two females however one died, i've noticed the male chasing her. the male has the small tube beside his anal fin is that right? is it normally quite transclucent to white in colour?

Is it deffinately a he? :p If it were a female, I would suspect she is going to give birth. Otherwise, Wilder is most likely correct.

Hmm... that is the first post that I see... so what exactly is the strange behavior?

I normally do my water changes in the evenings and I just leave the light off when I am done and put it back on in the morning.
My male platy used to hide a lot when I first got him but has gained confidence now. How long have you had your platy?

Also, unrelated, but where do you go for your fish/supplies and would you recommend them?

I have had my platy for 3 months, i think it is because the male keeps chasing her and probably the stress of water change, she seems fine this morning and fred is definetly a male as he has the tube beside his anal fin, cant remember how to spell the technical term.
Cheekeyarab: I use Pets @ home for most equipment and their fish. However I have got a small aquatics shop in Aberdeen which has been there for years, its called Waterworld Aquatic Centre, its beside Kittybrewster, not sure where your from in Scotland?
I think i will get another female platy to take some attention of the one I have, we did have two but one died 2 months ago. :(

We are out past mintlaw (A90 aberdeen-fraserburgh road) but have yet to find a really great store. I heard there was a good one on holburn street and wondered if you'd been there.

Definitely a good idea to get another girlie, it'll give your other one a break. Good luck!

yeah the one on holburn street is called Holburn tropics or tropicals or something similar, the guy who owns it is very nice. However I did get fish from pets @ home at the beach and my neons from the fish shop at kittybrewster. my neons are all healthy and huge even though I did my cycle with them. However all my female pregnant guppies died from pets @ home and I wondered whether they were ill from there. Also I would not use Cockers for fish stuff as their advice is really rubbish and I lost a male betta because of them and a female swordtail.
My female palty is still hiding however does swim about and is eating, she has no signs of infection, i think she may be pregnant and is maybe getting ready to give birth. I'm keeping an eye on her.
