This happened to my platy a couple of days ago... Could it be a prolapse?
If so what could have caused this and could it possibly because she has very recently given birth?

Does anyone know if there any chance of her recovering? I fed her pea's yesterday and nothing today.
She is still able to poo and is still active but is hiding a lot. (However she used to hide quite a bit anyway.)

Thanks.

Is there any pine coning going on? It could Be that she did not release all of her babies while giving birth, sometimes it came take a couple of days to release all the fry.
What are your water parameter like?

There is no pine-coning,
Water parameters are all fine, ammonia 0, nitrate 10 ppm.
Last water change of 30% was done yesterday.

She does seem to have taken ages to give birth, with the fry being born quite far apart.

she could be hanging on to her fry, and very bloated which is affecting the birthing. what i would do is to stop feeding for at least 5 days, it'll not harm the fish(s) in anyway.
keep the water quality up, and care for the fry.
do not stress her by trying to see how she is doing to see what she is doing.

IMO i only feed my fish once a day, three times a week. it allows for the digestive system to clean out, and no bloating etc etc, and less waste produced. helps the health of the fish.. anyways if you feed everyday i would recommend to do what i do. just around lunch time, the fish wont starve.. but for fry follow the proper raising instructions.

Ok thanks for all your advice. I will continue to not feed for a few more days and make sure the water stays pristine. Fingers crossed she will get through this!

Platy update - The lump has finally gone! It took a good week but when I got in from work tonight it had disappeared. I'm really pleased and relieved for her and she is also looking far less bloated.
She does however seemed to have developed a small bit of fungus on her tail fin. I am presuming it is because her immune system has been lowered for a while. That also seems to be going away though so fingers crossed she will be back to full health soon :)
