Platy or Molly

Hello. I have two fish I think are platys. 1st is a red with black stripe I think is a tuxedo platy. 2nd is a mostly black with some gold/whiteish I think is a black blue platy. Sometimes I wonder if they are mollies. They both seem huge for a platy from what I have seen and the are both long and slenderish which I understand is a platy trait. I would appreciate some confirmation from any experts that are able to tell the difference.

Oh man I was way off, never considered a swordtail. She was in a tank labeled miscellaneous platys, bought both of them at the same time from the same tank and the person who fished them out didn’t know the difference either I guess. Will she be lonely hanging out with my other two platys?

Don't worry, she won't be lonely with the platies around. They can interbreed in fact!

Well, a lot of platy strains or even species can grow up large if the conditions are right.

Just look at mine...

Not all platies are slender. For sure platies from the Xiphophorus maculatus species aren't slender. Platies from the Xiphophorus variatus species are mostly slender (so, not all...).
Swordtails have a mor stretched body. There are spcies that are slender and there are soecies that are more robust in shape.

A store can be mistaken on this or they thought we'll put them together for they're in the same genus.

No worries, platies and swordtail will hang out together...

That's a coral red platy.
