Hello

My Platy had her babies whilst I was at work today (guess I ought to call them fry). But there isn't any in sight at all.

I have two Platy's, 3 Danios in my tank .. with plastic plants etc for them to hide in. The fish don't look swollen and bloated. Could they have mucned through all her babies? The Danios do have a healthy appetite. Be gutted if none of them have survived :(

I'd be willing to bet that if you dig around long enough that you will probably find at least 1 or 2...they're pretty good at hiding.

Thanks for the advice, will have a look whenI clean tomorrow night.

Just another question ... my platy's have their fins displayed and are dancing around each other. Surely they are not being frisky again??? She's only just had some?

Thanks again for your help :)

That's the best time to mate a female. The sooner a male breeds her after a drop, the more likely the next drop will be his.

Blimey. poor girl doesn't get a break!!!! Thanks for the info .. she doesn't seem bothered by him and it's pretty to watch, at first I thought they were fighting as she kept nipping him.

Good job I have a second tank cycling I think! :D

i think that it was your danios that have ate your fry.
i had platy and guppy fry that got eaten by zebra danio in my tank.

:hyper:

One of my fry made an appearance tonight ... silly thing swam right out in to an uncovered part of my tank. I went to grab some plants I have growing in my second back up tank to float on the top ... when I got back he had disappeared.

I am hoping he hasn't been munched by being too brave.

My question is, what will he do for food? Will he be able to eat the fish flakes I put in for the others?

He will find something to eat, whether it be leftover flake or bits of algae. My fry , strangely enough, tend to grow more quickly in the more mature main tank.

:fun: thank you for getting back to me. I wondered if I needed to buy something special for him. He looks to be about 5mm long, nealry transparent and he has a cream coloured blob on him. Didn't see him for long, as I panicked and rushed to get the plants as my Danios even nibble me when cleaning the tank.

I am so hoping he gets through, I thought I had lost them all.

If you're concerned about him getting enough food you can give the flakes a little pinch before you toss them in to make them a little easier for the fry to swallow. :)

I am a sad case, I have been crushing some of the flakes up a bit smaller in the hope that just one might have survived. That's why I am so excited :D

Thanks so much for always taking the time to reply, so much appreciated.
