Hi everone, yesterday I was given 2 platty how do i sex them and 1 of them is rather round the previous owner said she could be pregnant . So how can i tell ? Also what are gravid spots? I dont really want fry so I hope someone can help in time. Thanks in advance.

Females have a rounded anal fin while males have a sharp tube-like anal fin.

Ok I have just identified my platty as female they are both black with orange heads and tails and this is why I cant see a gravid spot which i also just found out is the dark spot in front of the anal fin, this is the frys eyes forming inside their mum. The larger 1 has a fairly light coloured belly but is still 2 dark 2 tell. They both look square from behind.So it looks they will be mums soon. The pevious owner said the larger female killed the male because he would not leave her alone.
