I've got a group of 5 Platinum angels today, swapped my female Ellioti and some barbs for them :D

Their bodies are the size of a 10p but i have a couple of issues.
One of them has a torn anal fin, pic below, doesnt seem to be bothering him though but im wondering if it will grow back or not? Doesnt look like a genetic deformity to me, just miss handled and torn off.

One of the other ones as you can see in the first pic has a ripped dorsal fin, im sure that will heal as it happened to one of my plecs and its healed up, here's another pic:

all in all I'm happy with them, they look nice already and their still so small so cant wait until they grow up and show more of the blue in them but i hope them 2 will be ok

I feed my fish tetra colour pro everyday and frozen bloodworm every few with live bloodworm or that brineshrimp stuff once a month, cucumber too once a week for the plecs. Is there any other dietary requirements they require?

Cheers
Rob

As long as the damage does not extend to the body tissue of the fish, the fins should grow back

Thats good news thanks :) do you know roughly how long it will take?
One of the angels ventral fins is a bit shorter than the other, do they grow too?

cheers :)

Is it normal for the other fish to be really shy?
Since the angels have been in there, the 5 Banded and the Odessa Barbs have been hiding in the ricks and only coming out to eat and at night, will they get used to them soon?

the corys and plecs are alright though lol

:)

Nice little group :) the fins should start healing in a couple of days or so, looks like the split fin could of happened during netting, good clean water and these sorts of rips and tears heal fairly quickly. The barbs should be ok in a few days, most fish see new comers as either food or threat, once they realifse they are not going to be eaten they will be out an about again :)

Unenven ventrals in Angels is quite common. It is a birth defect and probably will remain like that.
Some of my Angels are like this. Doesn't seem to bother them.

Yeah its nearly healed already, only about 4mm which is still split. How long will the angel which has no anal fin take to grow back?

If the angel with the short ventral pairs up with one of the others could there be a chance of it being passed down or is it not genetic?

They've started to come out now, but staying right at the bottom lol. Tank looks really empty atm lol

Il add some better pictures when i get home :)

Thanks for the help
Rob

The anal fin most likely wont grow back fully as it looks on the pic like the rays have gone, the one with the short ventral fins, if it pairs with another would be ok. However, I am presuming that all these are related as they came from the same supplier, brothers & sisters, if they are from parents that are brother and sister you may get more defects.

Ah thats a shame, it doesnt seem to bother him though so im sure he'll be alright. Erm im not sure if there related but your right, they probably are. I need to go to the shop anyway so i can ask then :)

Here's a couple of better pictures of them all :

they all swim in a group which is nice and dont swim away when i come into the room lol

Lovely in a group :) I take the split fin has heale already :)

Yeah that healed up after a few days lol.
Is it normal they swim in a group or is it because their young?

I have always kept angels in a group when I have had them, my latest little zebra's stick together all the time and I have had adults keep together too.

Hello,
just saw this topic,
I have 2 black angel that were essentially finless (anal and dorsal fin bitten off), bought them as I felt sorry for the little guys.
took about 4 months, but they have beautiful long fins now
