Platies Forever Pregnant? Not Reducing In Size After Giving Birth?

I have had two Platies give birth 1 week after each other around 10-20 fry each - the mothers still looked big so kept them on and off in two separate breeding traps. Fry are now in a separate smaller tank and the mothers are now in the main tank out of their breeding traps and are still very large 2 weeks and counting after giving birth. They never went noticeably smaller after giving birth - it is like they are constantly pregnant.

I have one part of my tank full of Cabomba plants set up in case they give birth for the fry to hide. I do not want to forever harrass the females in and out of breeding traps - just wondered if anyone knows why the mothers are still large and have never reduced in size after giving birth? Not sure what is my best option.

platies reduce size a couple of hours after birth if she has not then she could be just fat or she may have more fry to give birth to but this is not likely.

I fully understand what you are saying TT. My molly breeder female will drop an average of 30 fry but looks like this less than 8 hours after a drop.

Without the before picture to compare her, I would think that she had stayed huge but with pictures the difference is obvious, at least to me.

Holy cow the same thing happened to me! She gave birth, i found 7 fry in the tank(a very small number, i know... but she sadly might of been hungry) and they left her in there for like, 12 more hours. I didn't find anymore, and she appeared to be done. So i set her back in the tank. She had a very sharp drop from the front, but in the back its a sleek gradual rise. I swear she wasn't even so fat before i put her in the breeding tank! I am posting before and after pictures of her. i guess she might just be fat because there isn't a noticable gravid spot. Does yours look close to mine?

Yes, my 2 female Platies probably look bigger than when they were giving birth - go figure? Swimming around with huge bellies looking like they are going to drop any minute, though this has been the case for over 2 weeks since giving birth!

hmm...I never had a problem like that before but maybe they are just fat or had eaten too much,or maybe she is still having babies.
