An easy way to know is when it develops a gravid spot- a dark area behind the stomach this will be the eyes of the fry :) i think she might be though ,,,good look!!!:)

dark gravid spot means nothing on many fish. for example i have fish right now that have dark gravid spots and they are not pregnant ;)

i recommend reading the post by 5teady. its all about behavior and shape imo.

i cant find the correct post by 5teady can you link me to it in private message
also there is gravid spot but again i didnt think these meant anything
ive brought a fry keeper so im all prepaired now if she does have babies but what am i looking out for in behaviour wise she swims like a loonatic since ive had her going in every corner right from the bottom right to the top are these signs ?

As stated, the gravid spot is not a good method to determine whether a livebearer is gravid or not.

But if she was in a mixed tank, then she will be. And will continue to be for about 6 months after her last interaction with a male, as they can store sperm for that long. If you have a male as well, then she will just be a baby machine.

When she's about due, her belly will have much squarer corners, and she will go and hide somewhere.

ahh thanks for the reply i have no males and tbh i dont think i want to get any as im after the more colourful and intresting tank than a baby unit
does any one have a picture of a squared platy belly so i know what im looking for as i dont really want the babies eaten but i will try and save them or as many as i can and gift these to my brothers tank :)

Take a look through the pinned topics at the top of this forum, there is one about guppies, and another about mollies. No real difference between these and platies.

When I kept a group of platies in a community tank, with little plant cover, I never even saw a platy fry, though there must have been some. The platies themselves will do a lot of that, their parenting skills are pretty low. Any leftovers were taken by the rest of the tank. That's nature for you, I'm afraid.
