Plastic Plant Pots

Hi, I was just wondering if you can plant aquarium plants inside those little plastic pots you get them in, the roots will still be able to creep through the holes but they would be much easier to move if I needed to, just making sure they are safe basically, thanks!

You can, but best to remove them, as they can get pot bound which stunts growth. Cut the pot off and remove as much of the mineral 'wool' as possible, then plant in the substrate or attache to a rock or piece of drift wood

The ones are have are more holes than plastic might they still get pot bound in these? Also I think when my tank is ready i would eventually get a trio of loaches, not sure which ones yet I thought this might stop them uprooting the plants, I dont mean just putting them in with the mineral wool still on, I was thinking about putting my substrate inside the pots, this still wouldnt work?

OIC, might still affect growth, best just to let them have all the space they need and leave them out of the pots.

Loaches generally shouldn't uproot plants, well not in my experience anyway.

I agree with Sam, the pot and the accompaning wool or potting medium should be removed if there is a substrate already present. It also starves the plant of water circulation which can lead to root rot and disease. I really don't like that some literature out there recommends keeping the wool. That vexes me.

In one of my Aquarium books, the author mentions that all rockwool should be removed from plants, as it can irritate the fishes gills. Perhaps an over-statment, but quite possible.
