Hello everyone!

Not too long ago i got back from a trip in North Carolina! We all went to a pottery shop and painted pottery...i painted myself a frog..hes got a realllllly large mouth and hes blue...anyways what they do is u choose the pottery u want to paint...paint it...and then they burn it tto smooth it and make its final color...I would like to know if its okay to put in my tank...no fish in this one cept for some platys and flagtails...soo can i? :hyper:

i used to work at one of these places. a lot of these ceramics paints have some pretty horrible stuff in them. the clear glaze we used even had lead in it  We dipped all the peices in glaze that would make it shiny and waterproof it. now supposedly, after it is fired it is safe to eat and drink off of and all the nasty stuff is eliminated. the whole thing is suposed to be like sealed or whatever. i dunno if this is definately ok for fish though.

is the inside of his mouth shiny? sometimes we didnt glaze the inside of peices that we knew probably wouldnt be eaten out of. if its not glazed, then its not sealed like the rest of it and can absorb water.
