Hi Laura

I use bonsai scissors just because they are small and can get in anywhere, but any pair will do just fine. Some people cut just above a leaf node but I just whack mine without much reguard.

Cutting above a leaf node will generally cause the stem plant to grow more leaves from the next node down. You can use this to your advantage to create thicker, bushier growth.

The 'proper' way to trim stemmed plants is to cut the top, uproot the bottom section and replant the top section. But thi sis time consuming and alot of hard work ;)
