I'm having trouble with the plants in my tank. One of them appears to slowly be falling apart hmm! I'm a bit nervous about adding any new ones as last time I did I got a tank full of little snails. What are peoples opinions on real or fake plants?

I have 2 real plants, and 1 fake one, in my 90 litre tank, i must say they are thriving, and have grown alot since i had them...i havnt had any problems....

Little parts of the plants do come off, and float to the top, where i just scoop them out...other than this....no problems...

I only have a few plants in my tank, but they seem to be going ok so far :)
I struggled initially, but then got some hardier plants - java fern (looks cool growing over bogwood) and also some anubias ...
I'd post in the planted section of this forum for a bit more advise if i were you tho :)

Edit : Oh and I think it looks much better with real plants than the fake ones :D

Get a bottle of snail killer, and treat the plants BEFORE you add them to your aquarium.
If you put them in (preferably) a small glass tank somewhere light and warm whilst you use the snail-killing-stuff, then that should keep them going for at least a couple of days.

i think thats a very good idea so u don't keep having to change the plants im new to this website and so fare i really like it !!

I find it's almost impossible to not introduce snails into a tank when having live plants.

You don't say what plant you have. It could simply be that the plant is a more demanding plant that benefits from high light, nutrients and CO2.

JDS has got it spot on. Go for hardier, 'low light' plants. Java Fern, Anubias and Java Moss are very hardy. All attach themselves to wood/rock.
