My marine tank has been runing now for about 5 months.

I noticed a plant growing from my live rock - it is green/brown with small leave and small round pod type things attched to the main stem.

It seesm to have grwn quite well and has reahed the surface.

Anybody know what this is and if I should be doing something?

Thanks

frank

Yeah most likely some type of macro algae. Post a pic and we can ID it for you or google "macro algae" and try and find the one you've got.

It wount let me upload the image - can I e mail it to you?

Green seaweeds need loads of light so if you have T5's or Halides on your sump it might work (never put natural seaweed in the main tank with the fish as it may have absorbed chemicals that will posion the fish if they eat it), brown seaweeds on the other hand seem to fair better but still end up disintegrating :/

Any idea what I should be doing with this stuff?
I have quite a bit growing.

Thanks

Frank

I would leave it if it's healthy, if it starts to discolour or disintegrste remove it.

Keep a check on the fish and if they're eating it makes sure there's no side effects.

My LFS sells that type of rock with the plant on, i was going to get some but wasn't to sure if it was any good.

Theirs was from fiji..... just labelled 'Fiji Plant Rock' :S can't be too bad stuff :dunno:
