Either way will work. I got my plants after I got my fish. Next time I set up an aquarium, I think I'll get at least some plants before I get the fish. It's easier to set up the plants without the fish in there, 'cause you don't have to worry about stressing out the fish too much if you don'ot like the way your plants are arranged. Like I said though, it'll work either way.

that is great yeah it makes a lot of sense to put the plants in first i just wanted to check because of oxygen and co2 etc :D

Its better to put some plants in first. They can go straight in while cycling and will help detoxify the water. They will also help to oxygenate the water and will compete with algae for excess nutrients.

im cycling does it help get rid orf amonia i have too much so i cant get fish first

Yup plants will use ammonia directly as a food source. Only problem I had with putting the plants in without the fish is I over did it with the ammonia and had Nitrate readings through the roof, without any fish in there to eat it the algae started growing quite quickly.

i put the plants in they are anacharis and i was just wondering how under water plants can turn brown

Not enough light or not enough trace elements for the plants to use as food.
