I am wondering if I can be a little lax on my water changes as my 1g bowls are all pretty heavily planted. I am still doing weekly changes, but I have given up trying to catch the boys, and I have only been doing 75-80% changes instead of the normal 100%. The readings are all good on the tanks. There is no buildup of ammonia or nitrite that I can see, nor is there a measurable reading for nitrate. The plants are growing like mad, the ambulia has already been trimmed in all the tanks. Is it ok to only change 75% or so once a week, or should I up the water changes to 2 times a week and do 50% at a time?

If I notice a lot of debris, I change the water 2 times in one sitting. To siphon water out I am using a siphon that I got from the automotive section at Walmart. It has a pump to get the water flowing, and I can clean the bottoms relatively easily without disturbing the plants or the fish too much. I then rinse the siphon and use it to siphon in my aged water.
