Planted Tank Newbie Journal

Mammoth tank. Looking good. Get some Seachem Flourish Excel, it's an excellent product that boosts growth and eliminates algae. For your size tank its going to be costly, 500ml bottle should last you about a month cost around £10, but once you've used it you'll never go back. 8)

Thanks for the tip Alex :good:

I have been using Seachem Flourish standard, but not the excel. Should I change to Excel? is the standard Flourish no good? :X

Well ive been adding Seachem Fourish Excel for just over a week now and all the hair agae has completely gone !! wonderful stuff :good:
Plants are looking healthy, but im not sure if I should re-scape? :/ Does it have too much of the 'jungle look' about it with plants growing all over the place? should I tidy up to look more like the orderly planted aquariums posted on here? Im in a dilema. What do you guys think? Should I make changes? :look:
I quite like the natural look with varius plants.

Tank pic as today:

I really like it mate wouldnt change anything. Think i will have to get myself some polysperma! :hey:

You should have your tank exactly the way *you* want it. Your fish couldn't really care how neat and orderly you trim your plants ;)

It's a gorgeous tank and setup in my opinion - with lovely lush algae free plants :good:

If you Pm me with your address I would be happy to post you some cuttings to save you buying some. I have to trim back all the time as it grows so fast. :good:

Thanks Bloo. :good: Im quite pleased with the growth etc , as you know these are big tanks to fill with plants and make them not look bare, especially with the depth being deeper than most tanks. When you consider my first post in this thread and look at the latest pic Im quite pleased with the results in such a short space of time. The substrate is only gravel as well, and I was really worried that I would have to go down the specialist strata route.
How did you set up your Rena in the end? Planted? Community? or just specialist fish?

Perhaps I'll go planted some time when I can get a diving suit ! It's way too deep for me to maintain planted. I'm struggling enough as it is with a stepladder and specialist long scissors just for my Vallis. That's all I have in the tank at the mo (and lots of wood), and seems to do just fine. I'm more into my catfish though, so unless I go for Java moss etc. on the upper levels of the wood - I don't really want plants obstructicing the substrate & sand too much. As much as I love planted tanks. Hopefully one day when I have that ground floor and more space I can have another planted tank ;)
