Planted Rio 125 - New Filter Pix

The background is actually made of sponge, and is chisled into rock-like shapes. It does look pretty natural, and fish such as Pleco really love attaching themselves to teh overhangs and crevases.

Another benefit is that it also acts as a large Bio filter.

That's cool, what sort of sponge is it? Can you give details of how you did it?

@Million - I can't take credit for making my background. I bought it ready made..
But you can make them quite easily from the large sponges used in ponds.

I do remember a seeing a tutorial, if I can find where that was, I'll send you the link.... :good:

Thanks. I've seen ones on using polystyrene covered in cement, but didn't like the idea of it.

Oooh no, neither would I....

I am sure cement would release allsorts of toxins into your water.

EDIT: - Million, I sent you a PM with teh link to the DIY backgrounds. Give me a shout if you didn't recieve it....

That tank is absolutely stunning and I think is the sort of thing I am aspiring too! Did you get your CO2 system running and how are you finding things..?
Wow please keep us updated I am looking forward to see how things progress..

Thanks for sharing - I would also love a link to creating backgrounds if you don't mind :)

Olly.

DiscusLova & Jim - Not all discus have Red eyes, as this magnificent Heckel proves:

Infact, I believe that 'true' discus, ie those in the wild have black eyes, although I am not 100% about that being factual.

Anyway, Elvis has had black eyes since birth, but you are right to observe that he is still a little stressed from his recent seperation from his former tank mates.

They have now paired up and started to spawn, and they made it clear that three was a crowd, so I have had to house him here temporarily until I can find more suitable accommodation as he is now just under 6" tall.

Elvis' striking colouration and his voracious appetite, suggest that he isnt too unhappy about having a place of his own though.

He is a very friendly Discus too, and was hand fed Shrimps & Mussels over the weekend which he thoroughly enjoyed....

Lovely fish, especially like the plecs :) Did you buy them from your LFS or online? If online, I'd be interested in the address if you don't mind ;)

Thanks Grumpy...

The L260 Queen Arabesque Plecs were bought from Swallow in Colchester.
Depending upon how South you are in Suffolk you could easily reach there. I was in there earlier today and they had about 10 Arabesque Plecs in stock.

Close by is Seapets. I popped in there today as well.
They had Bulldog Plecs @£4.95 and had a couple of L204 Flash Plec, incorrectly identified as something daft, but they were a mere @£6.95

The L134 Leopard Frog Plecs came from member Weisel, who is based in St Albans in Herts.
As I am based near Colchester in Essex it took me about an hour to drive over there, but it was well worth the journey.
He is a good bloke, and has a smashing fish room in his garden, with allsorts of interesting Plecs.
Ping Weisel a PM to see what he might have available.

Oh as another alternative, take a look at the classified page on Pleco fanatics - http://www.plecofanatics.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=56.... :good:

This is a new L260 that I added earlier today.
