Planted Bogwood Wanted

i wouldnt normally recommend going there but pets at home were doing 2 piece's for £25 last time i was there.

I had a look at your piece on eBay even before you posted it here.
But no plants on it :(

Its hard for me to get to the nearest P@H, but if i have to as a last resort i will.

for planted bogwood have to say Pets at home again i got some lovely bits from there and they are already well soaked mediums £14.99 or 2 for £25
Large £25 each my large one was planted at both ends and in the middle it measures 20" x 7 " (widest bit)

cheers Sarah xx

P@H are very good for plants, they sell tropica which are the best, and very cheaply too!

bogwood/ plant combinations are available from java plants & plants alive

@Joshy - Save yourself a small fortune and make your own.

Seapets in Colchester have Anubias 'mother' plants for £9.45, and you can easily split these into 4 individuals. You can pick up small pieces of pre-soaked bogwood for £1.99 in most LFS.

Then simply lash the plants onto pieces of bogwood with cotton. The plants will soon attach themselves and the cotton will be removed.

Thats what I have just done in my tank, which you can see if you click on the link in my siggy.
I reckon I probably saved myself a good £70....... :good:

I got mine from Pets @ Home too, and have to say they look great (found a dead dwarf gourami inside one though  )

Are the plants they use Java Fern? The ony problem I have with mine is that some of the leaves have browny/black speckles on them, they don't look like they are dying but aren't as attractive as the completely green leaves.

it will be a specie of microsorum, there is different varieties. Are the speckles on the back of the leaf? If so then this is where it will reproduce new plantlets.

Thanks for your help. The marks are on the top of the leaf, I've tried to attach a photo (first time!), hope it works.

There was me thinking you had a nice piece of planted bogwood for me wilchil64

Sorry, I highjacked the thread, didn't I?! I'm not selling it, because it IS a great piece of bogwood, just wondering whether I should remove the brown bits.

I did see that Modaz was selling a piece of planted bogwood on Ebay, I think. Auction no. 220314472695.

Good luck.

looks like it has a bit of black brush algae on to me? Along with the leaves dying.

Cut off a fair amount of the infected leaves to promote new growth, adding a fertiliser will help.

Thank you, I'll do that tomorrow when I do the water change. Is it dangerous to the fish or likely to kill off the plant? Will it spread to my other plants (Vallis, Amazon Sword and something that could be Green Cabomba.

I'm afraid I have no fertiliser in the tank, it's not something I've looked into at all. Can you give me some ideas what to add and how and how much? The tank is 180 litres, has fine gravel in it and the plant is growing on bogwood.
