Planted Aquascape

Thank you people for the compliments ;)

Whiskerz - It's 125 litre

Hi Tear-scar,

I trimmed the Alternanthera and Rotala becuase the lower leaves were dying, I believe they will (and seem to be as we speak) grow back even stronger. I removed the plants completely, cut back approx 8" from the bottom and re-planted. I was a little nervous at first but they are doing fine.

I understand what you're saying about the moss but my original idea was to dress the log with a view to reducing its harshness as it seemed to contrast to heavily with the surrounding plants, I believed I have acheived this softening and it provides a more natural look i.e. when will you find a clean log in a river, you will find at least a covering of algae, something which I cannot seem to acheive (what a shame!!). I like the idea of another piece, I have one in mind so look out for more pics, hopefully I won't upset Wolfman again!!

You appear very knowledgeable with your advice Tear-scar, have you any pics of your planted tanks?

All the best, and keep the constructive critisisms coming mate, it's good to hear :D

JoKer - I live in Peterborough, England, approx 100 miles north of London.

Hi gf225.

Great looking tank!

I have exactly the same tank as yours. :D (apart from yours looks 200x's better than mine.)

What lighting did you upgrade to, because im thinking of upgrading myself?

Also what fish do you keep in that tank?

Trimmings: Ah, I see. I use a lot of R. Indica in my tanks and it does have a die off in the lower leaves sometimes if it's grown straight tall . . .

Wood/Moss: Yup, no clean wood; u're right about that. Good luck with the 2nd piece of wood though, I think the two together will look spectacular. I'm trying to find a thinner piece (like mopani root?) for the ten gallon betta tank I'm working on right now . . . I really like the look of anubias roots hanging off of a thinner piece of wood.

Pictures: I have yet to take any photos I think does one of my tanks any justice . . . will keep working on that. For the most part I'm working with small tanks . . . unfortunately my knowledge surpasses my budget; I'm still in high school . . . I should go get a side job.

Nitro,

I changed the supplied bulbs (Philips) with Arcadia Freshwater Lamp and Interpet Daylight plus. I also squeezed a 30" 25W Dennerle Special-Plant tube which fits in front the Juwel ballast. All with reflectors. I'm contemplating upgrading to T5 as ATI supply retro-fit ballasts for Juwel tanks now. There £130 though!!

I thought I'd post a pic in the planted forum and ask some advice about attaching Java fern and also post it in this forum for general viewing.

Hi george,

I'm not very good when it comes to winding fiddly cotton or bands around roots to attach to bogwood, so these days I either pick pieces of wood with plenty of grooves and holes in or make the holes myself, then simply push the roots and rhizome of the fern through and it should hold.

This method stops you from having to put pieces of material in the tank, plus it looks a little more natural.

That's just my 2 pence worth.

Beautiful tank by the way, the colours are magnificent.

Regards,
Paul
