Plant Swapping

i think that the planted forum could be better set in differant sections anyway with pinned topics for each section may help stop so many repetative questions. the pinned topics we already have answer so many question posted on here but people don't use them, if they were directed into certain sections such as co2 etc etc they would use the pinned topics more IMO. sorry for going off topic but it seemed relivent to the subdivision of this forum!

This is a good idea and something I've considered asking William (admin) about.

The planted forum is busier than ever and we have a great cross-section of regular experienced members and newbies.

What if we say that the person has to have made so many post and been a member for a certain amount of time. Say 100 posts and a member for 3 months which i realise that excludes me as i've only made 75 posts but i don't say alot, buti have been a member since july last year. just my thoughts, what do you guys think?

I don't really think thats very fair, I don't post very often simply because I can glean almost all the info I need from old or current posts by searching. I only post if I've exhausted all my other options, so why should people like me be excluded?

Good point. I assume there are plenty of members who make the effort to only post questions when there research has failed to answer them. I applaud this actually, it makes my a lot easier - I've lost count the amount of times I've linked to the pinned threads.

I think my suggestion takes any "unfairness" into account, or at least leaves the plant supplier to decide via PM, thus eliminating any potential public awkwardness of deciding who can have their plants. I can see it developing into a popularity contest otherwise.

As for the sub-forum idea I'll look into it. I need to determine how many members are willing and able to provide this service. I'll run a poll.

For what its worth, Im new to this forum but it is very obvious that the people on here are into planted tanks and fish keeping because of the pleasure it gives them and other people. A way of being able to send people plants and help people get the more unusual plants will quickly self-regulate, as Jimbo said you quickly get an idea of the people who are on this forum because they want to share their experiences and help other people do the same. People who just want free plants will be stopped a mile off.

Ok well i had a lot of time to think about this in my reffing class (yes i passed and a new tank might be coming soon) but why not make it a sticky in the plant section since you guys think a lot of people dont read stickys as newbies so then more people who realy will use it will be in there and you divide the sticky into countrys that have the same postage and tell people to post a message like this

plant clippings to a good home(put name of plant in plant)
mailed to people only in the U.S.
free shipping (or not free shipping)
(here place current care you are giving it) Ex. liquid Ferts once a week, no CO2, 2wpg
minimum light requirements 1wpg
demands-little demands need clipping periodically

if interested PM me and we can work out something

something like that

Well I guess my first question is how many people are in Australia? I have started to accumulate some clippings each week now and I am not getting another tank for a few months so for now I am regularly binning things, I know most people here are UK/US based - so any aussies interested in the idea?

gf225?..I'd just like to find out the outcome as soon as possible, i'm so excited about this idea. :D

It's an excellent idea, hopefully it gets the official OK cuz I know that evey month or so I have tons of spiral vallis that just get tossed.

Oh, but I have the most high-demand plant of them all. I am an expert in growing duckweed and everybody wants it, you know you do. :hey:
