Just so you're getting some kind of an answer, I'm a slob and use Flourish.
This is undoubtedly unfashionable and not a tenth as good as any number of name brands I've never heard of and couldn't afford.
But I haven't been able to get any for quite a while, and the plants in several of my non-Walstads are suffering badly, some even melting/dying, although the algae's doing rather well just now.
To me, this indicates that it was doing rather a lot of good for my plants...
And that's more than I know...

This uninformed comment will magically produce an expert by the time I post this, bringing you a useful answer.
See, now I finally begin to understand the underlying principles of Murphy's Law - so he'll probably change them.
(The fiend.)

well the best brands are tropica & seachem,

seachem is pretty cheap depending on where you get it from!

i dont know of any others, except plantgro which is crap!

I've heard some people suggesting Rabbit poop...... Where are they now to elaborate??

I really wouldn't bother with it. It's so much simpler to buy a well known product.

Slob or not you are or were using one of the best ferts around. Seachem Flourish is about the best off the shelf fert in the US and Tropica Plant Nutrition in europe. Seachem is very expensive in the UK though.

Therefore you are indeed a lot more fashionable than you thought. lol

To the OP I would ignore all the ferts you find on the chain store shelves and get to a reputable LFS and find some Seachem. Alternatively go on aquaessentials.co.uk and buy Tropica Plant Nutrition+ <----The plus is important.

my anubias, java ferns, eleocharis, and aponogeton, would disagree with that statement

do your plants really need the fert though? Those could survive with minimum amount of nutrients if kept in low light. i tried it with my high tec set up, and the plants soon atrted showing defficiencies, especially in K.

Use seachem flourish for dosing weekly.

is that the flourish excel http://www.seapets.co.uk/product-details/s...tegory/800.html
just checking before i buy some ( gotta do price check now lol)

Just thought I'd mention, some (low light, at least) plants are sensitive to Excel, so you might want to be a little careful using it, if you do get any, to ensure you don't do any in.
Also, not good with shrimp - can kill them apparently, quite easily, but hopefully experts will advise.
We have recently been assured that Flourish is entirely safe with shrimp, though, as I expect you saw in a recent post.
Although it's supposed to be expensive in the UK.
