ok, I have a ten gallon tank with all plastic plants, I have had fish for several years, but never any live plants. So I have some questions. First off, is it better to grow the plants from a seed, or buy them already grow. How much do they cost, and what type of care am I going to have to put into them? Is there plants that have less care? Will I need flouresent light bulbs? and last but not least, it is even a good idea to put live plants in such a small tank (10g)? Thank you so much, in advance.

if you do not have a co2 in your tank then you wont be able to grow anything from a seed

so start with hardy grown plants

java fern

hornwort

somthing like that


where i buy my plants it costs only 2 -3 bucks for a plant

but prices range ...

what kind of lighting do you have now?
how many wats per gall?

its never a bad thing to have plants in your tank they keep yyour water in good quality and the fish like it more

as for carre.... it really depends on the plant

but if you get one of the plants i gave you examples of then all you need is light

In my 10 gallon I have:

5 thai onion plants.
1 straight vallis.
1 java fern tied to log with cotton.
Riccia tied to slate with cotton.
1 amazon sword.

And ive only been keeping tropicals for 6 months

Cool, I will definetly look into it! Lots a people think it is nerdy, but fishkeeping is awesome!

I have 2 20watt incandesent bulbs. I have looked for some flourecent(sp?), but have been unable to find any with that low of wattage. I almost never turn them on.

I have a red swordtail (probably only 1" long) and two neons. I had more but they died, for reasons that are my fault.
