I want to find some links for it but no luck, and since there arnt alot of people with ponds on the forum here....

I want to know...what's the rough cost of setting up a pond...by myself, it costs $10,000 to be made by pros, i'm broke.

Do i have to change the water?
How about winter?
How mnay kois?
How large should my pond be? should i make it out of linears? or buy one of those black ..plastic tubs?

those are just some of the questions i'm concerning, any links? forums? thanks alot

No doiubt someone will be able to help you in this forum, but you still have to do lots of research, and check out products at stores. Its all going to depend on how big your making the pond, what materials you want to use, what desing you want to use, and other factors such as the area in which you plan to put the pond. I suggest getting at least one book on the basics of making a pond. Usually the library has a lot of good resources. Not sure where your from, but I have a magazine called "Ponds USA" that is very good. You will still need to get a book though, not just a magazine.

I am pretty intrested in the hagen laguna products, i plan to buy a linear and make one myself, buy a powerflo max and their pump.

I also want to keep maybe a few turtles in there, prefered red eared sliders, will there be any problems?

and are there any good links for a newbie like me? i plan to make it 5 feet deep, also do you think it's big enough?

Do i have to do water changes?? i live in toronto, ontario. I am currently intrested in kois. I want to make sure they have enoguh room

As you can see, i can see the pump, fountain sorta thing from my breakfast table, wich would look cool

and another window, which i would be veiwing the fish from easiest.

From the diagram, the top to bottom is around 8 feet, by 5 feet and 5 feet deep, will be be enough? Thanks alot

I wonder how many gallons that is

to keep koi i would say you need to go at least 8x7. 5ft wide isn't very much at all when your taking about 30" fish.

your depth is fine as far as koi ponds go.

but if you want it to be a koi pond well stocked then your going to have to spend a bit more on filtration, otherwise you'll have plenty of problems once the koi grow up.

a general rule of thumb for UK prices is £1 per gallon. so if you have a 2000g pond it's going to cost you about £2000.

if you just want to chuck a couple of koi in there with mainly goldfish then you can probable get away with some bog standard filtration.

ive got a pond nothing supper but in looks alright i set it up for £50 that was for the pond pump and filter and i got an of cut of liner from some one i knew

i donot change the water and all the fish stay in in winter but the pond has to be a least 3ft deep in one place

Hello my fellow koi keeper, I dug serveral of ponds with my friends. Not one for myself yet but soon.
For kois you of course it should be at least 3 feet deep to keep other animals from gettin with it and kois can grow very large. at least 2000 gallon i suggest.

It doesnt cost that much, theres a lot of brand you can look around thats not really famous in US but it works just as good as name brands, plus a lot cheaper.

You can build most pond and get it running under 500 unless you want a very big one. Just shop around for cheap stuff, the hardest part is the diggin, takes forever especially if you have some hard mud.....aiya

im a koi owner too btw, im doing myself a pond very soon. My kois went from 4 inches to a 10+ incher in about half a year....donno how that happen, mayb cuz i feed to much.
